Topic Synopsis
A successful brand for Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) would help our “customers” better appreciate and understand our unique strengths and hence make better informed decisions when choosing which polytechnic to enrol in or to work with. NYP adopts an integrated approach for our brand to be successful, guided by the requirements that a brand differentiator has to be distinctive and that which is not easily replicated by the others. “Innovation” remains the key differentiator that sets NYP apart and it is a characteristic that resonates with the polytechnic’s culture, values and personality. Through the years, NYP has developed many innovative systems and processes that add value to its core business of education and training. We have provided an education for our students such that they leave us with the following qualities: research-driven, innovative, creative, enterprising. We envisage graduates with such qualities would be ready for industry, enterprise, further education and any other aspirations.
Biography
Youn Kay is the Director for the Centre for Quality in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Singapore. He is concurrently the Director for the Professional Development Centre. His key role in Centre for Quality includes planning, coordination, implementation and review of the NYP’s Organization Excellence journey. Youn Kay chairs committees spearheading various efforts like the Singapore Quality Award, Singapore Innovation Excellence Award, Service Excellence, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Benchmarking and Enterprise Risk Management. Youn Kay also leads NYP’s efforts in providing continuing education and training to adults. Through the Professional Development Centre, NYP offers a full range of Advanced, Specialists and Part-time Diplomas, Workforce Skills Qualifications Certifications and other Customized Courses. With 20 years of technical education and institute management experience, Youn Kay has held previous appointments in the Registrar’s Office, School of Design, Principals’ Office and the Ministry of Manpower.
Youn Kay has an Executive MBA and MSc (Mgmt of Technology) from the National University of Singapore as well as a BSc (Mfg Eng)(Hons) from Bradley University, US.
