Biography

Lee Cheok Yew was elected President of the Executive Council of MIS from Mar 2004. A seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience in the media and entertainment business, Lee Cheok Yew was MTV Asia’s Executive Vice-President of Southeast Asia and Digital Media Units from Aug 2003 to Dec 2005. He managed MTV Asia’s Southeast Asian operations, including its joint ventures in Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, as well as the MTV Mobile/Online and affiliate/program sales business across the whole of Asia.

Cheok Yew was previously founder and CEO of SPH Mediaworks, the broadcasting venture of Singapore media group Singapore Press Holdings. During his tenure there from Jun 2000- Mar 2003, Mr. Lee launched two terrestrial TV channels – Channel U and Channel I, started up a TV content production and distribution joint venture in Hong Kong, and acquired a 50% stake in the radio company UnionWorks Pte Ltd in Singapore.

Prior to SPH MediaWorks, Cheok Yew spent nine years from Feb 1991 to Mar 2000, at MediaCorp Group, latest as Chief Operating Officer, leading the charge in the corporatization of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation in 1994, and setting up various ventures including notably two new TV channels – a regional news channel (Channel NewsAsia) as well as a terrestrial sports channel (SportsCity). He also set up a movie company called Raintree Pictures producing Chinese and English feature films for the regional market.
